WLC was selected by USA Trucking to provide engineering and surveying services in connection with municipal water line reconstruction and future development plans for an 80 acre +/- site adjacent to the Town of Mills. A topographic survey was required and although 40 acres of the area was relatively flat, the remainder of the site had considerable hills and valleys. An area of this size would require considerable effort to survey with conventional methods and the project schedule and budget did not allow for an aerial survey with manned aircraft. The survey needed to be done in the month of November to allow engineering to be completed during the winter months. Winter winds and intermittent snow cover required the area be flown in two parts about a week and a half apart, and then combined into one survey. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) collected over 1600 images of the area at a ground sampling distance of one-half inch which were processed and provided the engineering team with the data needed for waterline design and produced a topographic survey for use in future development of the area.
