WLC was hired by Wanzek Construction, a N.D.-based heavy industrial contractor, to provide materials testing services on the Top of the World Wind Energy project. WLC’s services included, among others, moisture density testing, proofrolling the entire site, and tower excavations. By performing these tests, WLC ensured the tower pads were the appropriate compaction for the towers and the site to withstand the heavy trucks and equipment it was exposed to. Duke Energy has a power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp in to pick up the energy from the project. The materials testing team has worked on several wind energy projects in the past and has become very familiar with the standard requirements on wind farms.
