WLC Provides Services for New Casper-Natrona County Health Department Building

new casper-natrona county health department building

WLC is excited to be part of the team working on the new Casper-Natrona County Health Department Building. WLC is providing the civil engineering and land surveying for the new building. Construction of this project started in the summer of 2024. This project included civil engineering design, design surveying, and will continue through assisting the architect (MOA) with administration of the construction contract for a one story, approximately 35,000 square foot facility on the corner of 12th and Conwell Streets in Casper, Wyoming.

The existing building was constructed in 1977 and presented several challenges. With a total of 14,000 square feet, the building does not meet the needs and operations required by the Health Department with inadequate lobby space, a shortage of supply storage spaces, poor natural lighting, a shortage of off-street parking, and problematic wayfinding signage and layout.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought to surface the lack of space and facilities needed to meet rising demands on testing and vaccinations. This led to exterior testing and treatments being provided through a temporary office trailer located in the alley behind the building leading to several traffic problems.

The new facility will need to house the Health Department’s 11 departments and growing team of employees and staff. The total area for the new facility is nearly five times larger than the current space. With approximately 68,000 square feet sitting on eight acres. The building will have the capacity to hold up to 91 personnel which is over double the current staff of 45.

WLC’s services include land surveying, site grading and surfacing, water and sanitary sewer design, drainage system design, and construction contract administration. Site grading design services include curbs, accessibility ramps, and any retaining wall layout. Additionally, WLC designed the storm water detention system and dry utility coordination for the facility.

The new facility will be able to meet the current and growing needs of Natrona County’s patients, staff, partners, rapid response team, and overall community needs. WLC is thrilled to assist on this project that will prove to be a major asset to the health of the community. The new building is a long-awaited goal for the Health Department and will allow better health services and resources for Casper and Natrona County.
