WLC’s surveying team is gaining the addition of yet another Professional Land Surveyor of Wyoming. Just one year ago, Andrew Barnes secured his Land Surveyor in Training status and now he will serve as a professional surveyor at WLC after receiving his license.
Receiving a Wyoming Professional Land Surveyor License is no easy feat. To become a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), Andrew spent several years gaining work experience and training under a licensed surveyor as a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT). An LSIT status can only be obtained after passing the Fundamentals of Surveying exam; and, after passing the Fundamentals of Surveying exam, Andrew simply needed to submit the required information to NCEES. Due to the experience and education he had already received to become licensed, he immediately began preparing for the next round of exams including the Wyoming Land Surveyor Exam, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Land Surveying Exam, and the NCEES Principles and Practice of Land Surveying Exam.
Andrew had submitted his package for the LSIT as a formality shortly before becoming licensed which is how he was able to become an LSIT only one year before licensure. This is a different way an LSIT, like Andrew, can become licensed and it is primarily about moving through all the steps as efficiently as possible. The exams, combined with the years of hands-on experience, prepare a land surveyor to provide the most accurate functions, reports, and recommendations.
As a PLS, Andrew can now approve survey drawings and oversee projects utilizing his wide range of expertise including oil and gas operations, routing and construction staking for survey alignments and right-of-way platting, preparing survey data, topographic surveys for engineering, underground utility locates, and computation and location of Public Land Survey System monuments and other property monumentation.
The addition to WLC’s survey team ensures our clients know they are working with experienced, licensed professionals. With his Wyoming Professional Land Surveyor License, Andrew can better support WLC’s clients in conjunction with his current land surveying qualifications. Advocating for our team to advance their professional career, certifications and licenses supports and improves opportunities for our clients, team and individual employees.
