Power Company of Wyoming LLC (PCW) hired WLC to support the development of their 1,000 turbine wind farm located south of Rawlins, Wyoming. This multi-billion dollar project, when complete, will have the potential to produce approximately 3,000 megawatts of electricity. Situated within a 320,000 acre ranch, the development will take up only about 0.5% of the total land area. WLC’s first task was to locate and map approximately 300 miles of underground interstate gas and petroleum pipelines. This phase of the project was fast-tracked requiring WLC to complete the task in five weeks. Subsequently, WLC also located water pipelines and surveyed overhead electrical distribution lines along Sage Creek Road. The final products, submitted to PCW, consisted of geo-tagged photography and GIS Shapefiles included within the project geodatabase. In 2012, PCW asked WLC to survey the project control using GPS for laying out the alignment of 81 miles of roads spread over the ranch to be used in the coming years for the construction of the project. This project is ongoing and is scheduled to begin construction in 2015.
