WLC was hired by Sampson Construction to provide 3D laser scanning for engineering design of ductwork in the open beamed ceiling. The final deliverable created a real time, dated inventory of existing conditions. This will enable engineers to design improvements specific to actual and existing facilities. This scan will greatly minimize inefficient field engineering retrofitting. The laser scan project provided excellent data for design and as-built issues related to existing conditions and potential conflicts within the ceiling and roofing trusses. With scan data, designers can see and utilize the smart data to pre-fabricate ducting to fit seamlessly amongst the convoluted truss design. Difficult survey conditions within the existing auditorium and the height of the ceiling catwalk were challenges for WLC. Data acquisition required approximately 35 scans which were performed in a strategic manner to collect anticipated conflicts.
