Introducing WLC’s New Fixed-Wing Drone

fixed wing drone

Our team is ready to reach new heights by utilizing a new fixed-wing drone on your projects! Different than the drones we currently have, this unit provides even more benefits and efficiencies to our clients and can be used for a variety of applications. Compared to the unit our team currently deploys, this drone has a much larger range, provides more data faster, and has a higher resolution camera.

The Specs

  • Model: E400 MAPPING DRONE
  • Manufacturer: EVENT 38
  • Vertical takeoff, fixed wing drone which combines the takeoff and landing flexibility of a quad-coptor with the range and speed of a fixed wing unit
  • Max speed of 36 mph and 90-minute flight time allows for larger coverage
  • Customizable 3lb payload
  • Wingspan = 118”
  • Length = 59”
  • Wind resistant with up to 23kts ground level wind resistance

The Applications

Fixed-wing drones have become increasingly popular in civil engineering and land surveying due to their efficiency, high-quality data capture, and ability to cover large areas. WLC’s new drone can be applied across projects of any size; however, it is best suited for large scale mapping projects of 20 acres or greater. To illustrate, the unit allows our team to collect data on a 160-acre project in a just a few hours rather than a few days. WLC currently has two FAA-Certified Remote Pilots/Commercial Operators who operate our drones for topographic mapping, site surveys, inspections of hard to reach areas, development planning, and more.

The Benefits

Utilizing a fixed-wing drone for our projects presents several benefits not only for our team, but for our clients. Thanks to the high-quality and incredible detail of the aerial images captured during flight, we are able to make better conclusions and analyses for design and planning. This drone in particular has a much larger range and is faster than our current units which saves our team and clients valuable project time. A faster unit also allows for faster data acquisition, reducing the time required to survey large areas compared to ground-based methods or multi-rotor drones.

Along with efficiency, this unit has an upgraded camera with higher resolution allowing for more detail to be collected from higher elevations. When needed, our team can also modify the drone to carry a thermal or gimballed infrared camera to augment data collection.

Finally, this drone expands WLC’s effective mapping range and scale for our clients. Previously, larger-scale projects may have required a subcontractor, but can now be completed in-house, allowing for faster delivery times for our clients.

Overall, fixed-wing drones are valuable tools in civil engineering and land surveying enabling more efficient data collection and analysis while enhancing team safety and project accuracy.
