WLC Welcomes New Surveyor, Darian Hurst

surveyor

WLC is thrilled to welcome Darian Hurst, who has joined our team as a Survey Technician. In this role, Darian will support WLC’s surveying team, bringing four years of surveyor experience and a UAV pilot certification. Darian’s unique skills and interests, including strategic planning, the outdoors, aviation and drones, and geography, will bring new and different perspectives to the WLC team.

As a Natrona County High School graduate and outdoor enthusiast, Darian is well-versed in Wyoming’s distinct way of life and variable climate. Currently, Darian is majoring in Aviation through Casper College and the Rising Wings Aviation program. During his education, he has gained a great understanding of geography, topography, trigonometry, and cartography which has had very positive effects on pursuing his career in surveying.

As a Survey Technician, Darian is certified in several areas that will prove useful in his role. His certifications include being a licensed drone pilot (Part 107) and CPR certified as well as H2S Safety, OSHA, Trans Canadian, and Kinder-Morgan safety and operator qualifications. Additionally, Darian’s specific expertise lies in UAV/drone operations, barometric readings, aviation mapping, and even being bilingual (fluent in both Spanish and English).

After joining WLC in December 2024, Darian quickly applied himself to projects that utilize his training and education in land surveying and engineering. As a field-based surveyor, Darian particularly thrives when working on-site for various WLC projects. In just a short time, Darian has taken initiative, assisting WLC team members where needed and offering his shared knowledge and skills to assist on projects. His proven understanding of modern surveying equipment and technology has allowed him to help ensure that WLC gear and equipment operate with the most up-to-date software and data.

“While I have not been at WLC for long, I plan on doing everything I can going forward to be the best I can be for myself, colleagues, clients, and WLC as a whole,” says Darian.

In true Wyoming fashion, Darian enjoys hunting and fishing. However, he also enjoys songwriting, cinema, and automotive and aviation mechanics. We are thrilled to have Darian aboard. Please join us in welcoming and wishing him well in his new role.
