Andrew Barnes Secures Land Surveyor in Training

WLC would like to recognize Casper Survey Crew Chief, Andrew Barnes, for completing the necessary requirements to receive his Land Surveyor in Training certification! This accomplishment means Andrew has met Wyoming-specific education requirements and passed the certification exam.

The LSIT is an important certification on the path to becoming a Professional Land Surveyor. By completing this certification, a surveyor has proven the required knowledge and aptitude to practice land surveying.

As Survey Crew Chief, Andrew brings a wide range of expertise to the WLC team including oil and gas operations, routing and construction staking for survey alignments and right-of-way platting, preparing survey data, topographic surveys for engineering, underground utility locates, computation and location of Public Land Survey System monuments and other property monumentation, and now his LSIT certification.

After passing the Fundamentals of Surveying and the Principles and Practice of Surveying exams administered by The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), Andrew completed the Land Surveyor Intern (LSI) requirements for The Wyoming Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors (WYPEPLS). Currently, the State Board is reviewing his Professional Initial Exam and Licensure Application. When this review is complete, Andrew will be cleared to take the Wyoming Land Surveyor State Specific Exam.

Andrew already had the necessary education and experience for licensure upon completing the initial two NCEES administered exams, therefore his LSI requirements were satisfied in March 2023 when his NCEES record was transferred to WYPEPLS in order to submit the Professional Initial Exam & Licensure Application.

With the Land Surveyor in Training certification, Andrew can better support WLC’s clients in conjunction with his current land surveying qualifications, which include all functions except signing a plat as a licensed surveyor. Andrew hopes his LSIT certification will add to the expert service that WLC’s surveying team provides to its clients as well as help create future opportunities for him as a WLC team member.
