WLC is celebrating the retirement of Surveyor and Senior CADD Technician Joe Salveson. For more than 21 years, Joe has been a dedicated member of WLC’s Casper surveying team. Joe’s expertise in surveying has greatly impacted the success of many projects for over two decades. Joe has spent 21 years of his 36-year surveying career with WLC, and though we are sad to see him leave, we are beyond excited for his well-earned retirement.

During his time with WLC, Joe has lent his expertise to the Casper survey team in UAV aerial surveys for design and stockpile quantities, oil and gas well sites, pipeline surveying, boundary and cadastral surveys, property and access road surveys, wind and solar farm surveys, and much more. Some notable projects Joe has served as a surveyor for include the Evansville Secondary Access Road and East Antelope Road Reconstruction projects.

When Joe first started, he never planned to become a surveyor, but he’s grateful that the path led him there. Just as he didn’t map out his career in advance, he doesn’t have a detailed retirement plan, but he’s looking forward to visiting family in Arizona, Georgia, and Arkansas. He also plans to tackle long-awaited home projects, support his wife in her service dog training, and serve more actively in their church.

When asked what he will miss about the job, Joe says he has truly enjoyed the work, the company, and the people he has had the privilege of working alongside throughout his career. He says he will miss construction staking and collaborating with contractors, as he’s always enjoyed being a part of the construction process and seeing projects come to life.

“After years of working with my dad in heavy construction, I wanted a role that used my civil engineering degree more. WLC was the only place I hoped to work. I submitted one resume to Doran Boston in 1996, but there wasn’t an opening then. Eight years later, Don Davis offered me a position as a survey helper and draftsman. Accepting that role was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. WLC remains the only engineering and surveying firm I would ever want to work for,” says Joe.

As he approaches 67, Joe feels it is time to pass the reins to the next generation and watch them carry forward WLC’s legacy and reputation. WLC will certainly miss Joe, his surveying expertise, and the overall positivity he brings to the team. Join us in thanking and celebrating Joe’s 21 years of dedication to WLC.
