WLC was hired by Natrona County to address drainage issues on Strohecker Road after a significant portion of the drainage crossing washed out during a large rain event in 2023. To accommodate anticipated runoff in the future, WLC sized an appropriate structure for the road. Additionally, WLC performed a drainage study, assembled construction drawings, bid the project, and completed contract administration for the County. Due to the remote location of the project site, WLC utilized a precast box culvert for the crossing, allowing the entire structure to be built off-site and quickly assembled on-site. This strategy also resulted in less downtime and reduced impact on road users.
Stohecker Road was shut down during the construction of the crossing structure. In response, WLC designed a detour around the construction area to ease the passage of construction staff and road users. WLC also ensured accommodations were in place for local ranchers using the road to haul cattle during construction.
Upon completion, the new drainage structure manages the flow of significant rain runoff events without the risk of another washout and road closure. The project was completed on time and within budget.
