Don Davis, Past President of WLC, Retires After 40 Years with Company

Mr. Don Davis, P.L.S, past president of WLC, retired from WLC on June 30, 2017. Throughout his 40-year career with the company, he served as an employee, department manager, owner, board of director, and president. Since his resignation as president in March 2016, Mr. Davis has provided support and direction as Shane Porter transitioned into this role for WLC. Mr. Porter succeeded Don Davis, P.L.S. who served as WLC’s president from 2008-2016 and as a board of director since 1995.

Beginning his tenure with WLC in 1975 as a land surveyor, today Mr. Davis is an expert in the field and a respected voice statewide in the industry. He has completed many alignment and corridor projects, boundary and cadastral surveys, large ALTA surveys, many power line projects providing reports, center line staking, profile and crossing mapping, structure staking and all legal exhibits for right-of-way acquisition, project management services for plans of development, roads, and support of civil engineering projects.

Mr. Davis attended the International Correspondence Schools, Casper College, and University of Wyoming. He is a licensed professional land surveyor in Wyoming, Utah, and Nebraska and a member of American Council of Engineering Companies of Wyoming, Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming, Wyoming Engineering Society, and National Society of Professional Surveyors. He served as a Board of Director for the Casper Area Economic Development Alliance from 2012-2016 and was an enthusiastic supporter and participant in the Natrona County One Cent Campaign.

“Don’s retirement is bittersweet,” said Mr. Porter, president of WLC Engineering and Surveying. “While we’re sad to see him move on, we are incredibly appreciative of the years of hard work and dedication he contributed to WLC and glad he’ll get some time to relax and pursue other passions. He has been a loyal employee, a great leader, and an integral part of WLC’s direction and growth for many years, especially the previous eight. We wish him well in the new phase of his life.”

Mr. Porter joined WLC in 2004 and began serving as president and leading the WLC board of directors in March 2016. He provides strategic company planning and management of all business aspects including operations, staff, finances, marketing, and technical capabilities. In addition, he serves WLC’s clients as a principal-in-charge and project manager on civil engineering projects. In this capacity, he works with clients to plan, design, and execute their projects. This role includes managing all project staff, budgets, and resources for multiple, ongoing projects. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1997 and is a 2017 graduate of Leadership Wyoming.
