Pinedale Elementary School

In 2009, WLC Engineering, Surveying and Planning teamed with Sandstrom Associates and Layton Construction to design and construct the new Pinedale Elementary School. WLC is providing the civil engineering site design including utilities, grading, drainage, and traffic routes as well as the geotechnical analysis and revised recommendations. WLC is the only local ‘Pinedale’ sub consultant involved in the project.

The elementary school is the first school funded by the Wyoming School Facilities Commission to be constructed using a true design-build process. The Wyoming School Facilities Commission and Sublette County School District #1, required the project be completed by August 2010 in order to open for the 2010/2011 school year. A design-build project was the best opportunity to ensure this deadline was met.

In recent years, the District’s enrollment has increased 20%. Existing schools in Pinedale are over capacity and the new school will provide the space for the growing community’s needs. The 23-acre school site is designed for 570 K-5 elementary students with parking lots, strategically placed access roads, and a playground.

As a previously undeveloped and irrigated site, challenges included limited access and utilities and high ground water table. Ground water existed between 2 to 7 feet below the original ground surface.

The total project cost is $22 million. WLC has also provided technical support during construction and the necessary surveying/layout work to construct the site improvements. All components have been completed on time and on budget to date.

This project is scheduled for completion in 2010.
